Shoddy Big Box Work
« on: October 25, 2020, 08:36:20 PM »
Removed some stock Ping NS Pro 950 shafts from a set of i500 ... shaft insertion is not uniform iron to iron.  Really shoddy.  Each shaft will be playing different from the intended design based on this shoddy work.

Is it possible that the ferules slipped down the shaft a bit when you pulled them? Happens with ping irons as they have a collared ferrule.
On one of the shafts in the middle you can see a mark where I think the ferrule was sitting when the shaft was installed. While pulling them it slipped down and now it looks like a short insertion depth.

I'm quite sure there isn't any slippage although the middle shaft does indeed show the mark.

Easiest way to find out is if you just measure the shafts from end of grip to end of tip and see if the increments match. If they do, the ferrules slipped during extraction. If they don't match you know the insertion depths have been all over the place.

Iíve seen folks adjust overall length via insertion depth... horrible practice.  I check hosel depth on every club before dry fitting and before cutting shafts.
