Putter Grip
« on: February 02, 2020, 01:06:18 PM »
So I picked up a couple of new putters( non JDM)
Anyway if I want to make the putter head feel lighter, should I fit a Heavier Grip or Counter Balance style, as the lite weight one makes the club feel heavy!
If your not part of the Solution , then your part of the Problem!!

Rest in Peace “Mi Amigo”

I got a Gibson

A heavier grip will definitely move the balance point higher, but might not make the club head feel any lighter. What I’ve found is usually thicker grips make a club feel lighter because they spread the weight out over a larger surface area of your hand.  But some of this just comes down to personal perception and preference esp with putters as you don’t take a full swing with them at least not very often 😬

I actually just got one of the Elite RS100 grips for my Epon I-33, should be here this week and I can compare it to other grips and how they felt with the I-33 head.

D,

Apart from moving balance point up, the head will feel "lighter" while at the same time overal static weight will be heavier and depending on the grip, you will feel that.  Eg, if you;re moving from a standard pistol to say a N66, that is a difference of 40 over grams I think. You will feel it unless you're like Ian (recall he can;t feel the difference in golf balls).

Another trick is of course shortening it which will remove swing weight.  That of course changes playing lie angle which may or may not work for you.  Not sure if your fitter has putter lie adjustment equipment.

IIRC, it takes 4 grams of weight at the butt end to remove 1SW pt. May be wrong so you'll need to ask google to verify.
