Tip weighting ?
« on: December 30, 2018, 04:28:43 PM »
Evening

Ok so Im thinking of adding a 10g shaft weight to my Roddio to try and make it feel slightly weaker,at the tip, but by doing so will this alter the Head Bias?

If your not part of the Solution , then your part of the Problem!!

+2g head weight (roughly 1 swing weight point) will will weaken the shaft around 1 cpm. So 10g will weaken it roughly 5 cpm which is a half flex. Some tip active shaft are more sensitive to increased head weight and will change flex up to 2 cpm per 1 swing weight point.
Tom Wishon once said that 9-10g tip weight will move the heads CoG by the size of a pencil tip. The chances that it will change the head bias are very small but if you are very sensitive to this it can change the way you release the club head and the way you rotate it through impact.

You can wrap some lead tape around the hosel and see how it will change feel, ball flight etc..

Witness explained it well.  It'll be marginal and if it does, slightly more draw bias as it's at the heel end.

Ok update..
I seem to be picking up 22g Head weight ,  assuming 198g was Standard?
Then I added 10g Shaft Tip weight...

Assuming( like that word tonight) that the CPM was 260 ,( club build length was 44)
From standard, Will this Lunar Shaft feel weaker than before?

Was thinking of putting a Light weight grip on too

I've just done a similar thing testing a Ping G30 ls tec. Cut the shaft to 44 1/4" and added 6g-8g of lead tape, with a sw of d2. Whether it weakened the shaft flex is debatable, but it definitely made it sound/feel better.

Putting on a lighter grip will not change the flex of the shaft. But it will change the swing weight  - the club will feel head heavier.

The added 10g at the shaft tip will weaken the shaft. How much it will be can only be measured by a frequency meter because every shaft reacts different.
