Warning on Zodia Z921CC heads
« on: February 05, 2018, 11:59:30 PM »
Zodia 921CC has quality issues.

This head I have is actually my second head.   First one,  when I removed the original shaft,  the paint on the crown developed a crack along where the Ti meets the Carbon crown.   Very subtle but noticeable.   I reached out to Zodia directly at that time and had them replace it.
this second head I just reshafted last week to the AAA 2015.  I thought the reshaft went without issues but today as I was swinging it at the range,  I noticed the same hairline crack close to the hosel again where the carbon meets the Titanium.

Never had issues like this with 3 different Grandista heads or Yonex Ezone 380 & 450 back in the day ....

This Zodia is defective.   Can't even withstand mild heat to do a single reshaft.

Sent them a nasty email just now to tell them about it.

Anyway,  I am done with Zodia woods.   Moving on to other stuff!!

Ia it a carbon top?  If yes, there need to be special care and a technique to pull shafts.

Out of the many carbon crown heads I owned and worked on over the years,  this never happened to me before and then it happens on two Zodia Z921CC heads back to back?   So my take is that at least these Z921CC, apparently made in China , are much more sensitive to heat compared to ... say , a Grandista. Ive reshafted the two LS-001 heads I had last year at least twice each and had zero issues.    What Im thinking is that the epoxy used to bond the carbon to the Ti section has a higher thermal expansion coefficient compared to that of the paint... the paint cant expand enough and thus cracks.

The more I look at it it's likely a cosmetic issue than anything ...  but I am giving the head away to the person buying the Zodia fairway.

Apparently the paint on these heads are super thin based on a response from Zodia rep.
They took my first head back to the manufacturer and they determined that the crack at the surface was only at the paint layer and not down to the welding/bonding seam of the carbon crown.  And so structurally speaking, this is not an issue that affects functionality.

Not as serious of an issue as I thought ... but whatever.
