Your stand out product 2017?
« on: December 31, 2017, 05:32:08 PM »
I though it would be fun to know which piece of equipment you thought was good for you in 2017.
Well for me there was not a whole lot JDM to be honest. The main reason is that I am super happy with the current set up. Only thing I was still tinkering with is as always driver. But in that category I thought USDM outperformed JDM for me. The Callaway Epic Sub Zero is the clear winner this year for me. Feel, sound and performance is top notch. I think this is the longest driver I haven’t ever had. Ball speeds on the launch monitor were constantly a few mph higher than with any other driver.  I could do with a less busy crown (more related to colors rather than shapes or features) but I can live with it.
There is one JDM product that should be mentioned as a stand out. For me it is the CGS Orion Spy-S wedge. It went straight into the bag. Super happy with it. Great feel of the head and it spins plenty.
Driver: Callaway Epic Subzero
3FW: Kamui TP-XF
3 and 4 ute: Romaro I-brid Chapter2
5-PW: PRGR RS Forged
GW: 50* CGS Orion Spy Type S
SW: 2007 Yamaha InpresX Black
LW: 60° Edel DGR
Putter: Odyssey Milled Collection 6M

Maruman putter
Caldero  grips on drivers
Dogatti shaft
Saqra di and 17°ute...Ute esp had some great days esp on the links ,have it with an ns 130,.ruthlessly str8. Distance.sacrificed to gain accuracy worked wonders.
Fourteen  tc  1 Ute   ns 105 off the tee  has been a.game changer on short tracks it's the first club in bag
Epon 101 9. *with labo tataki 70xs (fave driver to play since it.was.built )flight on it. Is.peerless
 Feel unmatched!
Bridegestoneb330balls in the cold, they still spin!

Struggled with wedge play all year
Putting took a big leap forward nothing to do with putters. I play every shape size weight ,none really stood out besides the maruman bec. I shot my best rounds with it.
Driving was really good with just about everything, so nota driver .
Qhhhhhhh

The swap to a cadero  grip on the kasco fd 12.8°/ gd z6003x driver alt " the  beast " as it's known throughout the  multiverse , took it from a very  good club to unmissable.
That has been a revelation off.the tee it's made  a driver almost. Obsolete besides the fact. I love.drivng , honestly I don't need. Ne with this it's amazing .

Yup that's it, the cadero grip!

Great topic, thx shac/stu.

705 was the standout product in an otherwise very limited, targeted hoing season for me.

Only other new product was the Roddio hybridut.  It's was very good, very dense feeling, solid performer that I'll look to kick out next season..

...the RC tour v7 3w was a standout head, was that 2017?  The other rc head the one nobsy recommended was very good, I didn't have long enough with it befor someone singed her away but really enjoyed it.

The 2016 egg driver was real good but couldn't crack the third team.  Couple other projects that were interesting were the Epon Technica Titan 420 with a Roddio 65g stiff proto shaft and all kinds of shaft shuffling with the bold wedges after filling in the holes with wax and shafting with attas spin wedge these are taking a run at my beloved 213s...213 is the new 3HT for me.  The longest running head in my bag...honorable mention goes to the MCI black 100s.  It's a very smooth shaft, made my P3s sing.  That might just be my go forward setup if my swing continues to improve.

The year comes to a close as my final project is in transit as of this post.  AF155 with Basileus Alpha 60s.  I changed my mind on the shaft, last minute, several Roddio, Rombax, bangvoo, GD, bootoobee, loop cl, attas tspx and others await if she doesn't come in and take the starting spot.  First impressions, review etc. to come...happy new year Ho's!!!

For me Romaro Ray UTs. More or less an impulse buy but these are solid performers easy to hit and are going dead straight.

Good thread.
Epon 105 for me. Never hit this many fairways. It's a 2016 release (I think but I only started playing it in 2017 so...).
Seven VS-R putter with Doggati shaft. Unbelievable feeling and performing combo.
Still testing grips but love the Masads and Caderos so far.
B330 ball is always great, as is the new Taylormade TP5 ball.

Stew, what Maruman putter and what is the Epon driver you mention?

There have been a few discoveries for me this past year.

- Thru the Benock fitting I discovered I am better fit with a blade style putter.   I always thought that I am more of a neo mallet person.

- Acquiring the Mystery WNC-710 irons ( because I wanted the CBI-80 shaft that came with them )  I quickly realized I did not mind shovel like Game
Improvement Cavity Back irons with large offsets at all.    They are refreshing after years of using players forged irons.

- Bridgestone J015CB heads that I picked up from Robbie might be the closest thing to being the perfect players CB.   Great combo'd with Shimada K's 8001.

- Graphite Design Tour AD TP shafts are as good as they get.

- Garsen Max grips  very different but works really well!!

So there is nothing in my bag that is actually a "2017" model but I am pretty happy with the current sets as they stand.

For 2018 no major overhaul of my bags are anticipated.  But obviously,  I'll keep trying new things.  cuz that's what I do.  :)

Happy New Year everyone!!

D it's the old 101. Got. 2heads and rebuilt them with a stinger (plays44.5) for shaping balls  And the labo which is anti left  and I'm speechless. It's ihate to admit it better than the stinger!
Well it's longer and flight is.lower., the maruman is this one
Had  my pair of 68s with it  and have but played but Once since.

Forgot to mention the Callaway Chrome Softs balls. Best bang for the buck.
Stu, I thinks Nobs means the newer TP model (dark siver) and not the PT.

Yes this one.

Very similar description ....   the TP has a bit lower torque.
Stu-san,  if you liked the PT,  you should definitely give the TP a try.

The CRZ FW titanium wood works very well for me. Also the Jbeam TF FW woods - but not the UT, the feel is night and day somehow..

AK26 also works well. Love the sound and feel - i usually don't like the muted sound of the traditional Epon drivers.

Have a set of 705 and while I appreciate the forgiveness, I find the feel tradeoff to be difficult. Hate the clicky hallow feel so probably going back to a more traditional 1 piece CB
