Titleist AVX review
« on: November 18, 2017, 07:46:54 PM »
3&1/2 rounds in with this ball and I feel compelled to share my thoughts.

This is a very very very good ball.  Possibly great.

Longest by 5 yards.  Very good control, low spin from the driver and woods but launch able.  Great on chips and pitches, good spin, holds its line best.  Volvik vibe and chrome soft spin more with the lob and the skipper bit the AVX is just a better all around ball.

Played a  match against the chrome soft front 9 and Volvik vibe back 9 and scores were: 37 - 39 and 43 - 45 (got tired on the back)...it's better than anything I've played.  My new gamer ball.

I picked up some recently.  I have only been able to chip/pitch with them so far.  Plenty of stopping power, nearly the same as Pro V1.  Feel great.  Softer than a Pro V1.  Hope for a 50* day so I can play them on the course.  Great Yellow color as well.  Helps me follow the ball.

Glad to hear a great review HB.

Thx buddy, they are $50 per box here...a couple clubs are selling them for $60 a box and they're moving qty...played them again today.  No appetite to go back to chrome soft or Volvik...the AVX is here to stay....loving the distence!

There has been a lot of debate on other forums about why Titleist would offer this line.  To me it makes some sense given the price point is the same as the ProV1/V1x as Titleist will attract new buyers and substitution is less of an issue as it does not negatively impact revenue.

I really want to try it head to head vs the ProV1.   54 tomorrow so I may get the chance!

I can't imagine you won't like it steve, titliest was at our range a week or so back when we first got the AVX.  I got sleeves of the new v1&v1x and then played a mess around 9 hitting 3 to 6 tee shots on every hole. The AVX is longer than the prov1 or prov1x for me.  I was surprised that the X is longer than the prov1 for me, I stayed away from it because I didn't think I could compress it but I hit enough shots to confirm it was longer.  The prov1x was 3-4 yards short of the AVX on average with similar swings.

Prov1 was clearly the shortest.  Even when I made good strikes and launched the ball it was short of or same distence as the avx/v1x when hit thin with low launch.  Nothing beats the prov1 around the green IMO.  It's just so controllable...other balls spin more but I just really like the prov1.  The AVX is a little different, I'm surprised at how chip and pitch shots seem to hold their line.  I need more time with the AVX to conclude how it stacks up against the v1...

Dale just buy a couple boxes and pony up for shipping...sure it's expensive but it's a really cool new ball.

The ProV1x is longer than the Pro V1 for me as well.  I really like the feel of the AVX on chips and pitches.  I think it will be my new ball as well.
