Yamada IPT shaft tip size?
« on: November 20, 2017, 03:30:00 AM »
I have a lefty Yamada IPT en route and may pull the original shaft for a black shaft.  Do any of you know the shaft tip size, .370 or .355?

A, thanks for the info.

Now I have to decide what grip to put on it.  I've been playing a SS Mid-Slim 2.0 and Garsen Max grips for the last few years, both with counterweights.  Not sure if I want to drop $ for an Yamada mid-size orange leather Grip Master grip, I'm sure it'll look nice with the burning copper putter finish.  There's also a jumbo Yamada putter grip made by Benock, anyone has experience with this grip?

To be safe, get a 0.355 shaft.  Your fitter can easily shim it to fit.

Putter Grip by Benock?  Sounds strange.. I have Benock grips made by comic.  Didn;t know they make grips.

Do you have any pics of the Benock Jumbo grip?
It is actually surprising as the fitter person at Benock explained to me that Benock does not believe in larger taperless grips.
He said that it "numbs the feel"  and on the long run does not do you good.
When I heard that , in the back of my mind I said ... "Go tell that to the big boys in the PGA tour..."

Benock has two types of grips for their putters, the newer one are standard sized elastomer, smooth surface which is very much like Iomic classics.  I would not be surprised if Iomic made them.   The other are slightly larger and have textured finish.   ( the two on the right )
I have the textured finish one on my Benock putter I do like it as it has a similar tacky and soft feeling to my all time favorites which are the original Iomic Absolute grips.  ( not the current ones )

That said, I am wanting to try some non-tapered grips on my putter but a bit reluctant to do so because:

1.  While I am not 100% on board with their dis-approval of taperless grips, they did make it sound somewhat logical and made sense to me at the time.  ( and now I forgot how they explained it!!  Hate getting old. )

2.  I don't want to mess with the swing weight that was dialed in to 0.5g granularity at the fitting.   But if I can find one that is exactly 62g...  I might give it a try.

Thanks Nob-san,

I have to correct myself, the Yamada-Benock grips that I have seen on eBay are in fact the textured "iomic-type" grips that you have.  The jumbo Yamada grips available do not have any branding.  Below are pics.

A, thanks for the recommendation.  The putter comes in in a couple days.  When it comes in I'll measure the tip to confirm first.

Why don't you just buy the two brand new burning copper from BlueJay here on BST as he has 2 for sale here instead of waiting for 3 months for one.
