It's funny for me, in every part of my game, alignment always ends up being my problem...short game or ball striking, shots don't go where I want and then I make a series of small adjustments in setup...really without being aware of it, just naturally trying to correct for a block or leaving the club face open or coming over the top...I get more and more out of whack until closed or open looks normal to me...having a weekly lesson has really helped, at least I get an hour and a half a week where someone who knows what he's doing is watching and correcting me...golf is simple, if I could set up neutral every time for both full shots or putts I'd prob take 4 shots off my hcap and not go through these cycles where I'm putting like shit and or ball striking is weak and shakey..
To respond to Matt...(I'm from the equipment doesn't matter much...1 to 2 shots maybe school of thought)...I understand your point...I believe our mind tricks us most of the time...equipment that I'm confident in makes a bit g difference but the key is confidence. The gear isn't technically helping IMO, I believe all things equal there would be 1 or 2 strokes diff between my custom shafted shuffled/tuned setups and a decent off the rack set from PGA superstore...what makes the difference is my mental state...I love my epons/roddios...have full confidence in them and I hit good shots with them...have had full confidence in the egglets (i3,4,5,6) and even though they were totally different clubs and my swing was different them I hit good shots with them...
