So, over the winter in my boredom, I bought 716 CB's and AP1 Forged (the Korean model) to test against my Titleist T-MB's last year's winner.

Well, having not touched a club except for chipping in the basement, my swing is pretty much still in hibernation. It stinks getting old, but is better than the alternative!

Titleist 716 CB shafted with the Mamiya Recoil 110's (all three of the sets) love the shape, feel is great.  I was really surprised how forgiving these were for such a blade looking iron.  The tungsten really must do something.  T-MB's are really forgiving but these were very close with a little lower ball flight, which I like.  Not substantially shorter than the T-MB's despite the lower lofts.  The T-MB's are really pretty long, with all that technology rolled in.

The 716 AP1 forged were very good looking.  Overall a really nice size and shape.  Very forgiving, but despite the forging, did not feel as soft as the CB's.  My guess is the undercut technology kind of kills the feel a touch.  Strong lofts, 43* for a PW which is the same as the 9iron in the CB's, and 2* stronger than the T-MB's.  So, these were slightly longer, not a full club, at least over the past two days, than the CB's.

So, I am putting the 716CB's on the first team since even this early in the year, I found them more than forgiving enough. I thought maybe these were too much club for an old 9 HCP, but technology is my friend.

I will keep the T-MB as a back up for when the wheels come off as they always do.   The T-MB, felt very similar to the AP1 Forged and the distances were almost identical.  So, the AP1's got sold.  A very good club worth trying if you want Forged and uber forgiveness and can find them.

Here is to better weather and more than 25 rounds in 2016!

These are the AP1's.

I can add pics of the others but most have seen a 716 CB or T-MB

Very nice!

CB's would be something I would try.   AP1 would be great if the lofts weren't so strong.  43 deg PW would totally mess with my mind.
Forged Irons with traditional lofts using innovative technology for added forgiveness.   I think AP2 and CB achieved this.

Are the CBs as forgiving as the AP2s?

Nob-

I had AP2's probably 8 years ago. I switched from them to the 2010 VG3's The 716CB's are easier to hit than the AP2 from memory.  I really was surprised how easy it was to hit the 5 iron, my set is 5-PW.  The CB's are really good looking.

Sorry I couldn't get the pictures upside down for you....

I guess the '16 VG3 falls right in bewteen the AP2 and AP1 from a loft perspective.
Read somewhere that the '16 VG3 have less offset than previous years.
