Shaft insertion depth
« on: April 19, 2013, 09:18:56 PM »
Is the stiffness of a shaft impacted by the depth of insertion into the club head?
I am asking in regards to the Crazy/jBeam 435. Builder commented that the insertion was unusually deep and I am getting a definitive fade off the club.  It is currently shafted with a QFE Proto in X and am considering going to an S or SX flex....

Yes, deeper insertion stiffens up the shafts, similar to tipping. The older Titleist bore-thru heads were a pain in the ass in terms of shaft flex.

Think that is what I am getting on the Crazy 435 head.  Shaft goes in deep, think it is causing it to play to stiff for me...

Didn't know this. I assumed a shaft should always be pushed in all the way.

It should, without a doubt. But we are talking about different insertion depths of a specific clubhead. One dan have a longer hosel than the other. Worst thing are bore through heads, where you stick the shaft through the clubhead so it comes right out of the sole. This shaft will play way stouter than installed in a "regular" hosel, works just like tipping.

Why can't this industry have actual mfg standards…  Don't care how the want to label stuff, but at least use common sizes for stuff.

Have a Diamana X 60S on its way to me.  Will rebuild with it and leave a little extra length in the initial build just in case I need to stiffen up the club some.  After playing the X 70S in the S-Yard for a few rounds, it just might need it…

MBBG you indicated you tipped a Diamana X, how much did you tip and how significant was the flex change?
