Callaway PM wedge
« on: June 03, 2015, 11:45:57 PM »
Been playing this thing for almost everything inside 40 yards the past couple weeks and it's seriously like cheating. It also feels very good too despite being cast. Got me to thinking that despite how much it's helped my short game that I'd still like a JDM wedge there but will be tough to find one to knock this out of the bag. The 59 Shingo and maybe the RomaRo scoop might be the closest things to it from a design standpoint but even the Shingo is stainless cast. This one may be sticking around a while. It has made me look like a much better short game player than I really am!

A friend of mine is telling me the same, really got me thinking to get one.

How do you like it on full shots?

I don't like it much for full shots. I have my 52 and 58 Vokey forged for that tho. This to me is a specialty club for around the greens. Been using it on every short shot pretty much

I have been using the 64 for the past 3 rounds. Firstly it is an ugly duck. Large and unappealing.
However it is a flat out performer. Around the greens it is exceptional at the flop over a bunker or through the rough. The ball checks up and sticks.
Great out of the bunker when you have little to no green to work with as the ball doesn't get away from you. So besides its looks this thing works.

Nailed it Ash. Still gaming mine and using it for almost everything inside 40-50 yards aside from sand (58K) and uphill runners (52K). The 58K had been my short game standard to this point as my high loft wedge but this PM has become indispensable for me. I just have never had so much confidence in a wedge before I picked this up. I just know when I'm hitting a shot inside 20 yards I'm gonna have a damn good chance at getting up and down.

It took me a little bit to learn where to choose to land the ball as it was stopping short on me at first. I adjusted and started just throwing darts at the pin and trusting it to grab and it does. I did play in a fairly competitive scramble Saturday at a course with some double cut and rolled greens and it took me a while to pick the right spots as they wanted to get away but I just never seem to ever flub one or skull one with it. I don't think I've ever done either with it, to be honest. Just always comes out clean and with the desired trajectory. Some of the guys I play with are calling it my cheater wedge.

Glad you're liking it ash. I don't see it going anywhere for me. Sometimes you just get a club that fits like a glove. That's the PM wedge and the 358 driver for me right now.

Matt
Funny story is how ugly i think it looks and when i was playing with my regular group(guys who only use USDM stuff), They were like wow how awesome does that look. Just goes to show you that every body has different tastes.
It is not going anywhere for me as well, saves at least a stroke or two a round for me.

I am on the hunt for a 358 driver to try out as well.

Got mine while I was away, opened the box...  It looks a little bit like some of the old Ping Eye 2 irons in a funhouse mirror...

Gonna drop a Crazy Black Wedge shaft in it and see how she goes...

Yeah it's pretty messed up looking for sure

Mine is completely stock, really like the balance and feel of it so I'm leaving it alone despite the fact it irks me a little that it's the only steel shaft in the bag. Hope the crazy is a good match for it.

Hit this tonight, cally had a kbs hirev against the bold / Attas 10 combo I'm currently gaming.  Out of the rough and sand the cally is very very effective.  Great for the lobs...so hard to beat the bold on the square faced 50/50 or 30/70 shots though...

I'm on the look out for a 50* to go with my 52/58 wedges.
This one will be mainly for my full shots (90-100 yds) as against the other two wedges that I use around the green.
Any recommendations please? Would this Callaway PM wedge work - I currently use a Cleveland CG16 with a 10* bounce. Could also go with the 503 AW if I can find it reasonably.
The fairways here are quite lush and soft so a blade-like wedge just gets stuck in the ground, especially with my rather steep swing.

I wouldn't get one at less than 58 as this thing is a 2 trick pony IMO...

56 I think is the lowest loft made. I think there are much better options for a full swing club than this but it's brilliant for any and all touch shots
