Is more offset the fad now? Modart too?
« on: September 11, 2014, 04:42:08 AM »
The Epon P2 and new Epon wedges have tremendous offset and I just found an address pic of the SD Wedge from Modart which seems to have quite a bit of offset. I think the FP is no more than 4.0 on this or looks it at least.  If I had wanted to try the SD wedge before, I don't anymore... Just me of course.

A friend who has the Modart stock irons with the gears milled on the back also says the offset is heck of a lot on those.

Wondering if this is the fad nowadays with JDM.. offset that is.

Besides the look, what would a bit of offset affect a wedge?  What is the logic of having offset on a wedge.  I can understand offset on a long or mid iron but why a gap or sand wedge.

Epon put offset to their XL45 wedge to increase the spin as offset promotes hands in front of the ball at impact, and that promotes down blow to the ball before turf. This then leads to higher spin to compensate the conforming grooves. That's what Epon's global distributor told me.

I've played this wedge for a week and impressed so far. High spin low trajectory on normal chip shots and you'll get 60+ degree with no offset when opening the face all the way, giving you high lob shot.

Think this helps me carry only 52*/57* for all green side shots instead of 52*/56* high bounce (sand)/60* (lob)

I'm thinking about selling my 52* Toyoshima and 58* DB Forged now.

The ONOFF always have a lot of offset.  When I'm on, the ONOFF offset throws me off, but when I'm a little off, the ONOFF offset helps me get back on.

Surprised no one commented on this 5 years ago. Anyway, I digress. Anyone still game the xl45's?

213 is hard to beat c...

I really liked the xl45s...offset is quite useful if you’re playing off soft or hard pan...I like a little offset ...would rather that then onset...
