3W shaft convention?
« on: May 30, 2014, 10:01:19 AM »
Given the heavier static weight of a 3W over a driver head, do you guys play FW shafts that are:

1. Stiffer than your driver shaft?
2. Heavier than your driver shaft?

What's your logic?

I go 60g driver, 70g in 3w or 5w and 80g in 7w all in the same flex. Keeps it consistent.

Interesting.. no one goes a flex stiffer.  Not unusual but I would have thought one or 2 would.

These are tipped driver shafts or dedicated FW shafts you guys are using which in the latter base, may already have a stiffer tip than their driver shaft brethren.

Heavier but same or less stiffness with a tip stiff shaft. I hate an overly stiff 3W shaft because I don't often use it off the tee and I sweep the ball with it from fairway, and a really stout shaft makes it difficult to do so for me unless I really hit down on it which results in a low flying knuckle ball that runs forever but is a one trick pony

ususally, both heavier and stiffer.
 driver 70 s.................3w 75 xs- x............5w 80s.  thats usually my set ups.
the 5 w i like slightly flexier so  i can  get it to move  more . i use this for a lot o high soft cuts , cant  do that wit han ultra stiff 3w.  esp  on long  par 3s   or shorter par5 s.   i used  to use to ultra stiff  XX  but that  defeated the purpose  of having it  and a 3 wood.
eps if the  course im playing is from the forward teees, the 5 wood comes in very usefull.

ive used the quadra FEX 75xs in my 13.5 RC3w yetserday.
god damn thats an awsome set  up!!!

My 3W shaft is actually lighter than my driver shaft (and I already play a lightweight driver shaft). This was not really done on purpose, but I just had a shaft laying here unused and I just did not want to leave it that way. So it went into the 3W but I made sure that the SW was the same as the driver. I would also say it is stiffer than the driver shaft.
Like I said, there was no real thinking behind it. But the combos work for me and I am not touching it because treats me well  ::)

Heavier but softer to make hitting off the deck easier.
Prefer the flexier shaft.
