G25 8.5 with TFC X shaft
« on: November 25, 2013, 10:10:47 PM »
Took my Yururi wedges to builder today and hit some balls (in snow flurries and 20 mph wind, like an idiot)

Plucked the G25 8.5 with the stock TFC189 X flex off the demo rack to try out.

Straight up cheaters club. Sounds absolutely awful but feels powerful.  Granted with frozen range balls. Was hitting directly into the wind and was impressed with launch and distance and no ballooning.

Seemed impossible to hit a bad shot. I even dropped a couple on the deck (fluffy ish late season grass) for shits and grins and hit both of them as well as a nicely hit 3 wood.

I always wondered how a low lofted G25 type head paired with a low launch shaft would perform for me and now I know. Was particularly impressed with the stock shaft. Smooth and stable with great feel at impact despite the awful noise. Did some research and found out UST makes them to Ping specs. I hit probably 25 balls with it and never hit one outside the blank spot between the split score lines, which is proof to me that the shaft properly linked the club head to my hands.

Even though the head is ugly and sound is awful, it still inspires confidence and is incredibly easy to hit bombs with. I think something like this would be great for competitive round such as my league. The pure definition of point and shoot performance.

Agree with the "cheater's club"  :-)
Sound is bad,  but like you say its one of the most powerful impact sounds when you hear it up close.
Like a small explosion!

Shoot,  now I am interested in this head again.   Glad none of the ranges here are open now:-)
other wise i'd be trying it today.

The i25 diver due for release in February is supposed to be as forgiving as the g25 but with better esthetics and sound/feel according to a knowledgable source from Arizona.

If its as idiot proof as the G25 with better sound and looks, I'm probably gonna get one to mess with. Sounds awesome.

I bought a demo Speeder 7.2 TS X shaft and a G25 8.5 head. Got the setup for a song and will give it a whirl.

That should be a Monster setup.

Who's gonna run this forum when you've decided to bag a Ping driver, Titleist irons, Tour Edge FW's and Lethal golf balls lol?

The G25 for me was not the best - I had been playing the last 2 versions of the Ping driver over the years - G20 and G15 and abolutely loved them - super forgiving and long plus the sound was perfect. Along comes the G25 and I buy one at the release - bought a TS 6.2 and TS 6.3 with it. I start the spring playing it but I can't get past the sound. The results were average at best and so I ho a Titleist D3 from Scratch/John and the Ping is outperformed and I dump the Ping and shafts.

Roll forward a couple of months and I demo the Ping in the summer again and hit rockets with it absolutely was killing it on the range - I buy another one (despite the sound) with a tour ad di - I play one round where we had some significant money on the line and I miss every fairway but one.  It was gone that weekend.

LoL....Been there,Done that, and Got the T shirt MF!
Several times as a matter of fact. Just stripe it at the range, buy it right there on the spot and performs like a dogs ass on the GC!

So what happened?  It is Xmas and while I like this forum quite a bit, not sure you lived up to your claims...
