Buying JDM overseas...
« on: June 26, 2013, 02:21:58 PM »
Looking to the experts on where you guys get most of your JDM stuff.  I am familiar and have used Rakuten, but that's it.  I have also heard of Jauce and Rinkya, but have never used them.  Looking for any insight, suggestions, or tricks of the trade to better utilize these other services.  Is one better than the others?  Is there a certain protocol?  Is there anything or anyone to avoid at all costs?

I'd sincerely appreciate your input on this topic.
Thanks,

This is the thread, and it was lower on "good info" than I remembered:

I have had great luck with Rinkya.  Fees are a little high but packaging and timeframe for turnaround has been exemplary.  There are several proxy services to buy off Yahoo Japan.  Aleado has one that shows you the net final price of what you are looking to buy which is nice.  Jauce has a crappy interface in my opinion but I believe they are more reasonable than Rinkya.  Rakuten Global or the actual JN site is pretty good as well if you're looking for new.  I have bought a lot of used stuff from Rinkya for pennies on the dollar and all but one time I was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the item. The one time I wasn't, I got the item cheap and realized it had a few nicks in it so I wasn't too upset for what I paid.  Of course, those looking for new products with full support and recommendations/online email fittings can always buy from TSG.  I tend to believe we have a more DIY crowd here.

I am having very good success with Tenso as well.  Cheaper than Rinkya or Jauce, especially on the pricier items and since what we tend to buy is on the lighter side.  Not to mention it opens up a whole new level on the amount of product on Rakuten.

Hey guys,

My first post here ,  but many of you recognize me.... I bet.

I get my JDM used in many cases via Yahoo Japan Auction.
I live in the States but a service called buyee.jp ( operated by tenso.com ) allows overseas users to purchase things form Yahoo Japan Auctions for some added fee.
That is how I got my Kitada putter head a while back and recently bought a couple of driver heads at a ridiculously low price.
Gear from 3, 4 years ago I would say are around 50% of what you would expect to pay on eBay.

Another vendor on Rakuten Ichiba who is pretty good to deal with is Golf Baka Ichidai .    they ship stuff overseas without a 3rd party handler.
Been buying a few used high end shafts from them.    Most recent being  Basileus Z driver shaft for 25000 yen  and Crazy Boron for 23500 yen.
Out of the 5 or so transaction in the past,   one shaft did arrive broken  ,   but this time, they doubled the box and arrived with no issues.

Excellent info guys, and exactly what I was looking for.  Thanks for this.

NOBMT: On the broken shaft, did they replace it, or refund your money?  Or, were you just SOL.
