Post by: DaleUK on January 12, 2019, 04:57:24 PM
Anyone on here own or hit them?
finding it hard to not go over to the Dark side...
My Japanese affliction could be coming to an End.

I assume that you still have the Muziik irons and Roddio driver?

I have been using the PXG Gen 2 irons since September. I currently have the 4-G with the 54 and 58 in the sugar daddy. All of the heads have the black KBS S-Taper Stiff.
These have a slightly better fit then the Gen 1's. They are easier to hit and are about 5yards longer. Listed below is a trackman average for both the Gen 1 and 2 8 irons.

Gen 1 SS-84MPH, Distance 145yards
Gen 2 SS 83.6MPH Distance 153yards

Which model gen 2 irons are you playing ash?  I find the gen 2 P has quite a bit more offset than the gen 1 0311t.

I would highly recommend you get a set of PXGs AS WELL D.  If you know anyone who can participate in the heroes programme, the gen 1s  can be had for a steal.

Art
I have the P model.  I tested all three models on a TrackMan with the PXG Master fitter.  The distance for me was statistically the same for each type.  The difference was in dispersion.  The P mad XF offered the least dispersion.  The T model has a very sharp leading edge which felt like it was digging into the turf.  My son who is a low single digit also got fit and he ended up picking the P model like I did.  He also felt the turf interaction of the T model was to heavy.  The P has more offset the the Gen1 T.

I'll be keen to hear your thoughts on the gen 2 drivers Rob.  I'll likely schedule my pxg demo in a fortnights time.  The pxg adapter should arrive next week for the awaiting xanadu.

Have you thawed out now in Chicago land?

The snow is gone and the ground is thawing out. Will have some temps into the 50s this week. Itís 53 right now which would totally be playable if the ground wasnít mush due to the frost coming out of it after 3-4 months.

I havenít swung a club since fall but Sunday which coincidentally is my birthday we are doing our annual ďwing and swingĒ where we go to the simulator in Orland Park and play a round of 18 then go to hooters and eat wings drink beer and watch college basketball tournament games all afternoon.

I sold all my stuff and got some 785 srixon irons, the new PXG driver and hybrid, and M5 driver and FW. Keeping my tried and trusted Srixon U45, Forged Vokeys, PM wedge, and ugly spaceship putter.

Hit the gen 2s yesterday... 0811X, 0811Xf, 0317X and 0311T.

The irons and hybrid didn't do anything over the gen 1 for me.  I've no frame of reference for the gen 2 drivers over the gen 1 as I've not Hit the gen 1 but I thought the XF was very good.  Forgiving, Softish feel and thuddish sound.  Nice stealthy look.  Have decided to go for a driver fitting.  I hit the XF in 10.5.. I reckon a 9.5 will be better for me.

Thanks for the feedback. Have never hit a PXG. The Accra shaft I ordered for the driver is still back ordered so I donít have the gear yet.

Ok after several range sessions and a round on the course, the 0811X Gen2 has failed to make the bag, it was too low launching and too low spin, when I hit it perfectly, it was very good, not awesome, just very good.....I think this driver is very similar to F9 in terms of performance.  The 0811XF Gen2 is currently in the bag, it is giving me better numbers on trackman and it is more forgiving.  The real test will be the course but in my hands the XF is better than the X

I hit the gen2 xf today...it was pretty good, had projectx shafts but feel was ok, pretty straight, some forgiveness...nothing not to like...still never gonna buy them...but...can see why people like them...buddy got a gunboat 2 as well it was good...

Will shipped my driver and 3W today hopefully have them Monday. Weíve had a few days of nice weather but during the week when Iíve been working. League starts a week from Monday and I havenít played since I think October aside from one simulator round in March. Will do a shootout with the M5 TM with Tensei Pro Orange and see what wins.

ive given up on the PXG drivers......love the 0811XF but could not get the spin down, needed to turn it down to 7.5* and it was still about 300rpm too high....oppsoite with the 0811X, it was too low spin and low launch, basically I need a 0811XF in terms of feel and forgiveness and the spin and launch of 0811X......I considered going to the 10.5* 0811X, but there are a few other drivers im gonna try before getting another 0811X

I hit a bucket yesterday since I havenít played outdoors since October I believe and league started last night. I didnít want to wear myself out so concentrated on wedges and irons. Like the PXG Hybrid but launch was a hair low so I moved all the heavy weights to the back and that seemed to help quite a bit without having to adjust loft and change face face angle. Feel is solid and ball flight is strong. Not sure if itís any upgrade over my trusty RomaRo though.

The M5 driver combo won over the PXG handily yesterday. My M5 is hot melted and has tensei pro orange in it while the PXG has the new TZ5 Accra. The PO shaft fits me to a TóI tend to always play better with higher balance point shafts in my woods and this was no exception.

The heads feel and sound very similar; almost wooden. On good shots the ball flight looked similar. The biggest difference was I was making a lot better contact with the M5 which I put down to the shaft fitting me better. Or at least being something I am used to. The TZ5 seems quite stiff and I think I was ďjumpingĒ on it to load it up and thus the inconsistency in strikes.

Despite the busyness of the M5 crown, I have always liked the shape of TM heads, and this is no different. The way they look behind the ball is very confidence inspiring to me. The PXG looks slight closed to me which is a pet peeve of mine. I ordered the 10.5 so I can open it up a little but will probably need to move the weights back to keep same launch height.

I ended up using the M5 in league last night and it performed well for me. The M5 fairway is a monster too. I will tinker with the PXGs and see if I can dial them in some more. Might try another shaft in the driver.

I couldn't hit the 9* 0811X, spin and launch was too low and even on perfect ball speeds, I only saw good ball speed, not great ball speed.  The 0811XF in 9* felt fantastic, long and forgiving, a driver I could play every day.  The only drawback was it just had good average length, it wasn't long and im always looking for long.  Went back to my M4 with Tour AD IZ 5X and it performed better than ever.......BUT I stumbled upon a 10.5* 0811X with Ventus 6X, I bought the driver for the shaft but decided to try it for a few hits before selling the head off.....Man was I shocked.  The 10.5* 0811X was everything I was looking for.  Haha but its way too early to call it the champ, I have to see how it behaves over the course of a couple weeks.

As for the irons, its a weird journey, my second time running through the PXG irons, I went from 0311T to 0311P to 0311XF to 0311T Gen2 to 0311P Gen2 to SGi P combo to XF 0311P combo to 0311P to Epon 505s to Epon 502s ( copper grail ) to Personal 2.0. Haha and thats just over the period of a month or two.

Tried the xf 9 with diamond speeder 5sr and ventus.  Looks like the xf9 is the right head for me with the ds.  Very consistent.  Avg launch of 14.x degrees, 95mph ss and spin of 2300 avg.  Avg distance of 235 meters with a few 240 meter drives.  Very consistent with only 1 out of 11 drives a straight pull left.  Others were straight or slight straight push fade.  Good forgiving head.

Hybrid in standard loft setting with weights back is in the bag. Took some dialing in to hit the launch window I was looking for with it but was able to do so today.

Moved weights back into extreme rear draw and fade positions on the M5 head and lowered the loft one notch to open it up a smidge and was really striping it and getting much higher ball flight than Iíve been seeing.

I will say that the moveable weights on both these heads make a stark difference in ball flight. On a side note the shop owner had a Mystery CF 445 driver with a FEX TP-V 65SX in it that his friend was asking him to sell for him. I hit it pretty well, nice looking and feeling setup.

I had a full bag of PXGs Gen 2 but sold the woods quickly.. The irons are great and comparable in every way to the best of Epons. Love the gunboat putter which helps square the face. The woods in my opinion is terrible, bad feel, muted sound, avg distance. Ping G410 beats PXG night and day. Just my 2 cent

Is yours the DLC finish? That's supposed to be durable.if the older version black then yeah, like most black finishes, not durable.

It is DLC and it is durable - so far the sole hasnít worn yet at all, Iíve probably played 10 rounds and 20 times at the range. But the face.. if you donít hit in the center, it leaves marks on the face..

I had the 0811x. Never tried the XF. But Iím in love with Ping right now and I donít think XF can beat 410, or even come close..

Have to say the Quality of the Products is as good as anything Iíve seen, played ... including JDM.

Long story short I thought Iíd fall right into the P line up but to my surprise these were bigger and chunky than Iíd imagined ..

Wondering how youíd redo the Grooves?

Just buy Taylormade and sell your souls to the DEVIL!!

The faces are just slightly thinner than competitors but they wear extremely fast.  I heard a rumor that the reason for the softness and quick wear of the irons is because they mix lead in with their metal to get a softer feeling iron.  Im not sure of the validity of that statement but after much experience with the PXG ( over 20 sets ) they are the fastest wearing set out there and they do ding easily.

* But you never keep irons long enough to wear out the plastic wrapper ???  I think you will be fine in terms of wear.

Not all at one time......most I have had in my closet at one time would be 7 sets......I bought a bunch when they first came out and then bought into PXG when the prices came down dramatically......currently I have zero sets.  Im playing Epon irons right now....but my driver and woods are PXG

I imagine if true, this will entail playing at least a round a week every week and a 1000 balls at the range each week for quite some extended period..   definitely  no risk for my set

I demo'ed the Romeo wedge and thought it is quite nice. Dense feeling, spins well. Also hit the XF driver which is no different from the X. For me I would not recommend the woods but definitely irons and wedges. Putter is a personal thing, I love the gunboat putter in darkness.

Well clubs got back to me apart from 7,5 iron... but the S.W. was well OFF.., thought it was the shafts that weíre lifeless but some lead tape solved that problem...

Not bad fit and finish for 3.5k GBP

MADE IN USA, refined in sheffield ( UK)

You should consider taking grips off and adding lead in the that way...  The tape is ugly, even Trump would say that its not his type...

Hey I know my limits and the homemade lead tape( actually Lead flashing cut down and double sided tape)... and Iíve reached them!!

But yes I think after my week away golfing Iíll be ringing a few ppl up!
Iíve spoken to PXG and they think they can bring the head weight up using the Screws.... or soft stepping shafts!?
Title: Re: PXG Gen2??
Post by: RhodyGolf on July 01, 2019, 04:12:30 PM
If the screws work, great.  If not to avoid having to ship anywhere, adding some lead and re-gripping is quite easy, even Ian could do it...
