Title: Titleist TS2 / TS3 Drivers
Post by: Robbiez on October 01, 2018, 10:46:35 PM
Come on guys, we are golf enthusiasts and this is the latest and greatest in USDM drivers.  Is it good, you betcha !!!!!

Distance 9/10
Feel 5/10
Looks 6/10
Forgiveness 10/10
Low Spin :  Yes it can be set up with very low spin

Its my goal to try out almost every driver which is proclaimed to be the latest and the greatest....  can tell you that this club is not the longest club out there, and all these claims about finding extra yardage are highly unlikely, especially if you have dialed in your driver and have optimal launch and spin numbers.  Basically the ball will only go as far as your swing speed will allow once you have optimized your driver and shaft.

I decide to go with the TS3 in 8.5 loft and a Evenflow White 65g shaft T1100.

The best feature of this club is how it retains ball speed across the entire face.  Other companies have said it before but this driver actual delivers, im not sure how straight this will be on the course but I can guarantee you that the ball speed will be near MAX.  The  direct middle and outside toe and inside heel strikes generate almost the same ball speed.  I just got it and tried it indoors on a GC Quad.

Haha....I own every driver you can possibly think of.....however in Japanese drivers, all I have left is the Ryoma Maxima 2014 and the Ryoma Maxima 2016 and a couple JBeams lying around, since I have a GC Quad with HMT and access to a Trackman, I have exhausted myself with driver possibilities.  My gamer used to be the Callaway Fusion and then I moved to the Ryoma 2016 Maxima and now im bagging the Ryoma 2014 D1 Maxima.   Im not sure the TS3 will knock out the Ryoma because the RYoma feels great and sounds great and I can pretty much shape it how I like.....after putting in about 13g of cotton, I have the Ryoma set up to exactly how I want.  Its not long but ill gladly leave 5-8 yards on the table in order to love the feel and have confidence on the tightest of golf courses.  I only had one session with the launch monitor and the TS3 and already not pleased with feel.....perhaps it is the shaft, I just built a Attas G7 shaft and I will be testing that today.  My swing speed is generally 100-105 and my max ball speed is 156.  My launch angle is ridiculously high no matter what I use 16*-19* , my angle of attack is 3.50 - 5 deg up and my backspin is 2100 on my gamers.  The TS3 is showing ball spin in the 1500-4000 region, but I believe this head when struck properly will generate 2000-2300 backspin with my swing. when I get some adapters in, I will also shaft up a TP6HDe and a Attas RPG shaft to test.

Have not seen much in JDM lately besides the JBeam Bullet but the Grandista RS D is on my radar and sooner or later I will pick one up

I used to ho drivers. I still do I guess but not as much. Even though my SS is below yours, I can use your data as rationale to narrow down my next purchase! Thanks for spending money so I donít!

What a joke 99%of  that rubbish is

Id love to share some words with one of the ..sorryTHE  biggest  shaft manufactiure  but it  wud prob make too  many lemmings  cry or  call BS.

Like you mention here.   Feel of the TS3 was unfortunately not even close to my collection of JDM SP700 drivers for me.  It was forgiving and it went straight but if I was to sacrifice looks, feel and sound,  it needs to bring me some really good distance gains.  Which it didn't in stock form.

I am a titleist fanboy.  Play the C16 irons which are GI gold!  I wanted to like this driver to add to the bag, but it does not offer much for me in terms of anything.   The C16 driver feels better, performs better does not look better but overall is better.  Driver feels too light.  Wanted to love this offering but even with my fanboy goggles I was disappointed.....

Titleist were at a club near me today so with all the talk of faster ball speed, I decided to book a time slot and have a fitting.....below is an extract from an email regarding my build specs for driver and the tm-b iron:

Ian Styring,

Thank you for your recent Titleist golf club fitting at The Dorset.

The summary below details the club specifications recommended during your fitting:

TS2 (10.5 degree)
Dexterity: RH
SureFit Hosel Setting: A-1
SureFit Weight: Use Default
Length: Standard
Shaft (Flex): Project X EvenFlow T1100 White 75 (6.5)
Grip (Size): Standard (Standard)
718 T-MB (4 - PW)
Dexterity: RH
Loft: Standard Loft
Lie Angle: Standard Lie
Length: Standard
Shaft (Flex): KBS C-Taper (X-Stiff)
Grip (Size): Standard (Standard)

Additional comments from your fitting professional, Ben Hiscock:

None

Us jdm fans can hold our heads high, as the fitter couldn't beat the ball speed and distances of both my driver and irons. Pheeew.

Most impressive thing for me was that my 7i numbers were, and I quote the Titleist fitter with Trackman, "tour average". Holy shit!
