Title: 7I Battle Royale
Post by: wmclarenf1 on September 16, 2017, 05:30:29 AM
Just got a set of Roddio I8 stiff shafts and figured I'd try it in my A-Grind R1 CB 7I.  Will take all the 7Is to the range tomorrow and see how they fare.

I'm keen to see how the older TS MR23 CBs with the older Quadra 852i stuffs stack up against the rest.  They swing weight very light as the heads were made for the stock S200s which of course are much heavier than the 852s.

This will be interesting. The major variable here seems like the shaft because the heads are similar in design except for the Buchi & PXG. Similar lofts?

I predict the modart and the buchi's come out on top due to the super premium shafts...best shafts in a very very strong shaft arsenal IMO....well done artimus!

On looks alone I'd take Mystery first and then Buchi......

Bangvoo shafts are great no doubt. But my vote say the PXG will comes up top due to the heads and performance.

LOOOOONNNGGGGG

OK… Nice coolish Sunday morning… went to the range for the 7I Battle Royale.. of course that’s just a Hollywood like over statement as I’ll most likely keep all of them…

So I got 90 range balls… I hate these new but now beat up TaylorMade balls.. I’m guessing super high compression 2 piece.  Hard, unpredictable.. simply range crap but what can you do?

So as I warm up and look behind me.. 2 bays away… the same Korean babe from a couple of weeks back with her husband/boyfriend/sugar daddy/whatever…  she looks damn good in those grey spandex tights.. clearly no kids despite being in her mid 30s…  ok… 7I Battle Royale…

Warmed up with my 54 and the 50 as I normally do and then went on to hit 5 ball sequence for each 7I… the last 5 were half choke punch shots…

From the brief session, these are my finds….. all the way about 6 bays in front of me I notice a student in a black top and tight-ish white shorts…. Hang on—son with her… 8 at most.. and then her husband… heard them speaking… Chinese nationals… but hey… she has quite a nice rear…MILF maybe?  She sure had a roaming eye too…

OH.. my findings…

OK… let’s start with distance… all hitting to the 150 meter board…. Sorry but not JDM here… PXG. Sure.. Strongest lofted 7I at 32 *…. But not by much here guys… maybe ½ club.  Shortest club again, not by 15m but maybe 8 m or so.. not the older TS MR23CB 852 combo but the Mystery 913 DGL combo… I think this is due to the fact that the DGL 90Stiff is perhaps the stiffest of the lot and a tad too much for me.  Feels heaviest.

So from what I can remember, distance ranking (about 8M from 1st to 6th) is :

1.   PXG Roddio I9S
2.   A-Grind R1CB Roddio I8S= Modart CBC Bangvoo R
3.   Buchi VS200 Bangvoo R
4.   TS MR23CB Quadra 852iS
5.   Mystery 913 FEX DGL 90S

Before I go on… here are some static specs

Flex : As measured by my well trained, scientific hand flex method stiffest to softest:

-   FEX DGL90 Stiff
-   Roddio I9 Stiff
-   Roddio I8 Stiff
-   Muziik Bangvoo Regular
-   Quadra 852i Stiff
On this note, the Bangvoo Regular is very close to the I8 Stiff in feel which supports my personal theory that Bangvoos play stiff to flex.

Static Weight from heaviest to lightest measured by my scientific… wait for it….digital scale ☺ :

-   Mystery 913 DGL 90S = 417 Grams
-   PXG 0311T Roddio I9 = 416 Grams
-   Buchi VS200 Bangvoo = 411 Grams
-   Modart CBC Bangvoo = 410 Grams
-   A-Grind R1CB Roddio I8 = 406 Grams
-   TS MR23CB Quadra 852 = 404 Grams

For Swing weight, all are about D1 to D2 except the MR23 which are…… C7.5… yes… as you recall, I mentioned above these were made for DGS200 shafts which are much heavier hence the swing weight loss with the much lighter 852 shafts… But here’s the revelation… swing weight is way over rated… sure, the head of the MR23 852 combo feels lighter but you know what, it didn’t play that way.  Despite its age, older shaft, lighter static and swing weight, it was keeping up admirably with the rest.  In fact I think with a more accurate grip size, I may be able to get more out of them.  The Quadra 852 are thin butt shafts and I should have added another full length or 2 of tape....I’m actually so impressed with the MR23 852 combo that I;m thinking of getting the 2x2 Cadero in black with red wording for these.  The Caderos should work well with the thinner butt 852.. thinner butt.. thinking of the Korean babe 2 bays behind me now…..

Ok…now on to spin…  terms of highest to lowest and again, not absolute high spin and drop out of sky low spin so get perspective and sorry no numbers… its me…

-   Mystery 913 DGL 90.... maybe that's why they are the shortest apart from being a tad stiff for me
-   MR23 852
-   Buchi VS200 Bangvoo
-   Modart CBC Bangvoo
-   PXG 0311T Roddio I9
-   A-Grind R1CB Roddio I8

Now dispersion and ball flight… WTF!  Another Korean babe just got out of the returning buggy… definitely not a MILF…. So many distractions this morning… welcomed of course…. Cute pink polka dotted top… pretty girl… not vampish but you’d go out with her…. Man… I gotta range every Sunday….

OK… dispersion and ball flight right…

All of them are about the same ball flight but the MR23CB 852 went the highest  and then there is the Mystery 913 DGL.  Not surprising here I guess as the DGL spins the most despite the metal fibre reinforced tip.

Dispersion wise… that polka dotted sure houses a sweet thing…. Is she the tightest?  Hmmmm…. Ok… The whore or loosest of the group is the 852 Stiff… I’d say the Bangvoos and the Roddios are close but I give the edge to the Bangvoo.  Tightest is the Mystery 913 FEX DGL90 but I’m thinking because it’s the stiffest for my swing and hence also the shortest….

Feel… the Chinese (MILF?) sure looks good form address from the back…OK.. Nothing I have is mushy epon soft.   I don’t like that any more.  That said, the Mystery 913 DGL combo is the densest feeling of the lot.. much like Miura dense… I think the DGL 90S are not for me but I’m still keen to experiment with the Mystery 913s… they are a solid head. Firmest feeling is the A-Grind R1CBs and the clickiest the PXG 00311Ts.  Modart CBCs have the most unique feel.. not firm or soft, not clicky or dense.. different, not in a bad way.  Buchi VS200 are heaven when struck right.  The MR23s also have a nice softer feel.

Finally, forgiveness from most forgiving to least and note, nothing here is Miura Blade demanding.  Far from it :

-   PXG 0311T.  These things just go even on bad hits and when you strike em well, expect a club more distance over the rest easy.
-   Modart CBC
-   Mystery 913.  I think the shaft and will look to sell either the full combo or the FEX DGL90S
-   Buchi VS200s.  Despite some calling it a blade or neo blade, this is very forgiving for what it is.
-   A-Grind R1CBs.  Players’ CB indeed but sweet strikes are well rewarded from a performance and feel POV.  In fact, I started off with the R1s and the first hit was pure. I’m sold on this combo and taking my A-Grinds out of BST.
-   TS MR23CB.  If the R1s are players CBs, these are more so.  More compact, very thin topline and all biz.  Can’t wait to get in the Caderos for this which will another SW point but not hat it matters so much.

So what is my out take from this morning? I will move the FEX DGL90 Stiff to someone else and damn.. I’m coming to the range every Sunday morning… those looking for Korean babes and possible MILFs… nice Sunday morning.

Oh.. on looks the mom and polka dotted the best.. the gap behind me... typical vamp look.. which you;d probably get sick of but the ass and the body...  I like all my irons for their looks.  Some are clean, some busy but all appeal to me in different ways...

You need to workout.....

Can't be the weight of the DGL that you didn't get along with, but the profile of the shaft. The Roddio i9 was the longest but second in static weight and 'felt' second stiffest.....you should try the DGL 120x. Lol. From what you've described, and my testing, I think you'd get along great with the Quadra 100i. Great feel, high ball flight and stable.

I was actually thinking about that and then thought about taking on 3 husbands/boyfriends/toy boys and decided not to...

Yeah.. Profile probably doesn't suit my swing.  Good point.  It'll be a shame to break up the mystery combo though.   Great looking combo.

This is an epic Battle Royale.
Glad to see the PXG hold up well against some really good JDM irons.

Nice review A! I wish there is a Zodia CG, CM, or the spider in your review.
Have you hit by any chance any Zodia iron yet?

Only wedges. Chiba tends to be on the more form side but the performance is there.  It's down to preference on feel(if you like epon, you probably won't like Zodia chiba) and looks also I'd you like the more industrial raw finish.

Played with the modart cbc bangvoos again today after a long while... Man... These cbcs are sneaky long.  And on a day I'm not swinging well. The DS with MAVC 80 was also sneaky long.
